Report Scope

The scope of this investigation includes major industrial cooling system categories that are being installed across all scales and facets of industrial production. The report covers cooling technologies that are applicable to small-scale and minor auxiliary waste heat loads, up to very large waste heat loads associated with large-scale electricity production. Industrial cooling technologies are used to reject waste heat across a wide array of manufacturing processes, raw materials production, chemicals production, refining, electricity production, food production and an array of other processes around the globe. Specific technology categories considered in this report comprise four separate industrial cooling system categories: once-through cooling, evaporative cooling systems, hybrid cooling systems, and dry cooling systems, as shown in the following table.
