1947 Marlan and Rosemary Bourns founded Bourns Laboratories in their Altadena, California Garage.
1952 Marlan Bourns invented and developed the Trimpot Trimming Potentiometer, showcased at the ISA show in Cleveland, Ohio.
1953 The company filed a patent for its Trimpot Variable Resistor Trimming Potentiometer.
1959 Bourns Laboratories constructed its new building adjacent to 6135 Magnolia Avenue, sold 120,000 shares of capital stock, and started trading as Bourns Inc.
1963 The company introduced the KNOBPOT Potentiometer, the Miniature Relay, and the Linear Variable Differential Transformer products.

2006 Bourns Inc. acquired the assets of Bell Industries' J.W. Miller Division, SSI Technologies' Automotive Controls Division, and Therm-O-Disc's Polymer PTC business.
2014 Bourns acquired all of the outstanding shares of Komatsulite Mfg. Co., Ltd and its subsidiaries to achieve a significant milestone in Its long-term growth. This acquisition adds highly complementary products consistent with the company's strategic roadmap.
2019 The company has acquired all assets of I&T GmbH, a supplier of extruded flat flexible cables for clockspring torque sensors.
2021 The company acquired Kaschke Components GmbH, a provider of magnetic core materials and magnetic solutions. Its primary focus is on manufacturing ferrite cores for the growing inductor and transformer industry.
