1933 Canon’s predecessor, Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory, is founded in Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo.
1935 The company files for registration of the "Canon" trademark.
1937 Precision Optical Industry Co. Ltd. is founded.
1940 First, an indirect X-ray camera is developed.
1947 The company becomes Canon Camera Co. Inc.
1949 Canon shares are listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange for the first time. 
1955 Canon’s New York branch office has been opened.
1957 Canon Europa is established in Geneva.
1963 Canon Latin America is established in Panama.
1965 Canon U.S.A. Inc. is established.
1975 Canon Business Machines, Inc. was established in California, USA.
1976 Canon (U.K.) Ltd. is established.
1979 Canon Australia Pty. Ltd. and Canon Singapore Pte. Ltd. are established.
1981 The Hiratsuka Plant opens as the Component Development Center.
1982 Oita Canon Inc. is established in Japan.
1983 Canon Bretagne S.A.S. is established in France.
1984 Canon Components Inc. is established in Japan.
1985 Canon Virginia Inc. is established in the U.S.A.
1987 Canon licenses camera technologies to GoldStar Precision of Korea.
1988 Canon Research Centre Europe Ltd. is established in the U.K.
1990 Canon acquires equity in NeXT Inc. of the U.S.
1992 Canon Seiko Co. Ltd. and Canon Chemical Co. Inc. merge to form Canon Chemicals Inc.
1994 The first automatic-duplexing color laser copying machine, the CLC800, is introduced.
1995 First, FLCD is commercialized.
1999 Canon Inc. acquires equity in Tokyo Denshi Sekei Inc.
2007 The HG10 HD camcorder with built-in hard disk is introduced.
2009 All headquarters functions of Canon Europe are consolidated in London.
2010 Océ N.V. of the Netherlands becomes a Canon consolidated subsidiary currently known as Canon Production Printing Holding B.V.
2011 Canon and MEDIAN Technologies agree in the medical domain.
2013 Canon launches the VIXIA mini (LEGRIA mini) digital video camcorder.
2015 Canon makes Axis Communications a consolidated subsidiary.
2018 Toshiba Medical Systems changes its name to Canon Medical Systems.
2019 Canon launches the compact and lightweight EOS RP full-frame mirrorless camera.
2020 Canon develops VisualSLAM technology and enters the mobile robot market.
2021 Canon Medical has started joint research with the National Cancer Center in Japan to develop photon-counting CT systems.
2023 Cleveland Clinic and Canon Inc. enter partnership to advance global innovation in medical imaging solutions.
