1846 Carl Zeiss was founded.
1908 Main Carl Zeiss factory was established.
1947 The Zeiss Group in Heidenheim founded Opton Optische Werke Oberkochen GmbH, which from January 1947 operated under the name of Zeiss-Opton Optische Werke Oberkochen GmbH.
1953 Carl Zeiss took over Zeiss-Opton GmbH.
1970 First industrial electron beam lithography system developed.
2004 Carl Zeiss was converted into a stock company owned entirely by its foundation.
2022 Zeiss acquires the Hungarian ETEO Software Factory Kft.
2022 ZEISS Medical Technology partners with the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS).
2023 ZEISS invests in life science start-up InSphero to further advance the adoption of 3D microtissues in research and drug development.
2023 The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and ZEISS entered a long-term strategic partnership.
2023 ZEISS acquires Ncam Technologies.
