1918 The American Cellulose & Chemical Manufacturing Company (Amcelle) was founded in New York City, New York, USA, and later became Celanese Corp.
1921 Celanese began commercial production of acetate yarn.
1926 Celanese Canada was formed in Drummondville, Canada.
1927 The American Cellulose & Chemical Manufacturing Co. changes its name to "Celanese Corporation of America."
1945 Celanese established a production plant in Bishop, Texas.
1961 Celanese Corp. of America and Hoechst A.G. set up the Ticona Polymerwerke joint venture in Kelsterbach, Germany.
1965 Celanese opens a manufacturing facility in Lanaken, Belgium.
1979 Establishment of Celanese Far East Ltd in Hong Kong, China.
1981 Celanese, SABIC, and Duke Energy entered the Ibn Sina joint venture.
1993 Celanese acquired Copley Pharmaceuticals Inc.
2000 Celanese A.G. acquired the polyvinyl alcohol business from Air Products.
2002 The company acquired European emulsions and global emulsion powders businesses from Clariant A.G.
