Company Overview
CHIMEI is among the world’s largest ABS/PAN (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) producers. Its Taiwan-based production facilities have a total capacity of 1.0 million MTPA of ABS. Chi Mei holds 90% of the shares of its mainland China-based subsidiary, Zhenjiang Chi Mei, which has a capacity of 0.45 MTPA of ABS.
Chi Mei’s top products include Polylac ABS, Polyrex PS, Kibisan SAN (or AS), Kibiton TPE (thermo plastic elastomer) resin, Kibipol BR (butadiene rubber), Acryrex PMMA granulates and Acrypoly-bx PMMA extrusion sheets.
Founded in 1953 as the Chi Mei Industry Factory, Chi Mei started producing acrylic sheets in 1957. In 1968, Chi Mei established Poly Chemical Co., Ltd. (in a joint venture with Japan-based Mitsubishi Petrochemical Co., Ltd.), which manufactures Polyrex PS, including general purpose polystyrene (GPPS) and high impact polystyrene (HIPS). In 1976, Poly Chemical became Taiwan’s first ABS producer. Poly Chemical and Chi Mei merged in 1985.
Chi Mei developed Pan (AS) technology in 1980 and began production in 1981. It introduced PMMA technology in 1980 and started production in 1981. In 1997, Chi Mei entered the LCD monitor and electronics industries using its own PMMA resins.
