1802 E.I. du Pont established the iconic powder mill company Du Pont on the banks of the Brandywine River.
1897 H.H. Dow founds Dow Chemical Company.
1906 Dow produced its first agriculture product at a time when the value of U.S. farms had soared to $30 billion.
1926 Henry A. Wallace incorporates the Hi-Bred Corn Company, ushering in a new era of farmer acceptance of hybrid corn.
1928 DuPont purchases the Grasselli Chemical Company. Grasselli was a long-time manufacturer of inorganic and organic insecticides.
1929 Dow hired a researcher, Sylvia Stoesser. Five of her patents helped unlock the secrets to treating oil wells.
1935 The company changes its name to Pioneer Hi-Bred Corn Company.
1942 Dow’s first expansion begins with Dow Chemical Canada Ltd.
1946 Pioneer Hi-Bred Corn Company of Canada is founded.
1953 Dow introduces Saran Wrap for household use.
1965 Stephanie L. Kwolek developed the first liquid crystal polymer, which provides the basis for Kevlar brand fiber.
1968 Dow begins test-marketing Ziploc bags. DuPont introduces Lannate methomyl insecticide, which goes on to become one of its most successful crop protection products.
1970 The company changed its name to Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc. and established a separate overseas subsidiary.
1972 Dow launches Lorsban insecticide, now one of the most widely used insecticides in the world.
1981 DuPont bought petroleum manufacturer Conoco Inc. in the 1980s. It was the largest merger in corporate history.
1989 Dow and Eli Lilly form DowElanco, a joint venture to produce agricultural products.
1996 DuPont Dow Elastomers opened for business in 1996 as a joint venture between DuPont and The Dow Chemical Company. Pioneer is the first to start a genomics effort in corn.
1997 Dow acquires 100 percent ownership of DowElanco and renames it Dow AgroSciences.
1999 DuPont becomes 100 percent owner of Pioneer.
2002 Pioneer enters into a joint venture to market seed corn in China.
2011 DuPont acquires Danisco, a world-leading company in nutrition and health and industrial biosciences.
2018 Corteva Agriscience, agriculture division of DowDuPont, brand unveiled. Corteva announces the launch of Brevant® seeds — high-performance corn and soybean genetics, technology, and traits.
2019 Corteva Agriscience spins from DowDuPont, becoming a standalone company on June 1, 2019.
2020 Corteva Agriscience Launches Inatreq™ Active in Cereals in Europe. Corteva Agriscience Acquires Full Ownership of PhytoGen Seed Company LLC.
2021 Construction of Integrated R&D Center Begins in Eschbach, Germany.
2022 Corteva Agriscience Opens Its First Seed Applied Technology Center in Europe Corteva Seed Applied Technology Center Europe CSAT. Corteva Announces U.S. EPA Registration of Enlist One and Enlist Duo Herbicides through 2029. Corteva Agriscience Invests in Africa Middle East Seed Treatment Capability.
2023 With the acquisitions of Symborg and Stoller, Corteva cements its position as a global leader in the rapidly expanding Biologicals market.
