2000 The company ITM Power was founded by Don Highgate, Jon Lloyd, and John Wreford in the U.K.
2004 The company opened an R&D site in Sheffield, U.K., and it became the first hydrogen-related company on the London Stock Exchange.
2005 The company secured a development grant from Yorkshire Forward to expand lab and workshop space in Sheffield.
2008 ITM Power developed a 10kW electrolyzer.
2010 The company sold its first ITM electrolyzer to the University of Birmingham, Birmingham, England.
2011 ITM Power established its subsidiary ITM Power GmbH in Germany.
2012 ITM Power Inc. was established, and the company opened the HFuel hydrogen fuelling station at the University of Nottingham.
2015 JCB Research makes strategic investment in ITM and the company opened a hydrogen refuelling station at the Advanced Manufacturing Park, South Yorkshire.
2016 The First HyFive refueling station opened in Teddington, London, and the Second HyFive refueling station opened in East London.
2018 REFHYNE project launched in Cologne, Germany. First sales office established in Australia.
2019 Established ITM Linde Electrolysis joint venture with Linde and Signed a collaboration agreement with Iwatani Corporation of America.
2020 ITM Power signed a partnership agreement with Snam, ITM Linde Electrolysis was incorporated, and  MOTIVE was formed as a separate wholly-owned subsidiary.
2021 The company sold a 24MW PEM electrolyzer unit, the largest in the world, to Linde. The official opening of Bessemer Park Gigafactory is in Sheffield. 
2022 ITM announces joint venture with Vitol for hydrogen refueling, trading as Motive.
