1918 Katsujiro Iwai founded the company in Kanzaki, Amagasaki. It is a chemical company whose main products are automotive, industrial, and decorative coatings. 
1965 The company invested in Kansai United Paints Pte. Ltd., which is also known as Kansai Paint (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.
1971 The company established Kanpe Decorative Coatings by merging the Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokyo Kanpe Decorative Coating businesses.
1986 The company introduced Sonne EDUV electrodeposited photoresists for printed circuit boards.
1988 KNK COATINGS CO., LTD. was established in 1988 as a joint venture between KANGNAM JEVISCO CO., LTD. and Kansai Paint Co. Ltd.
1992 The company ventured with COSCO International Holdings Co. Ltd. and established COSCO Kansai Paint & Chemicals Co. Ltd. in Tianjin, China.
1995 The company joint ventured with Tianjin Beacon and established Tianjin Beacon Kansai Paint and Chemicals Co., Ltd. in Tianjin, China (now Tianjin Winfield Kansai Paint & Chemicals Co., Ltd.).
1995 The company ventured with Hunan Xiangjiang Coating and established Hunan Kansai Automotive Coatings Co., Ltd. in Changsha, China (now Hunan Xiangjiang Kansai Paint Co., Ltd.).
1999 The company acquired Goodlass Nerolac Paints Pvt Ltd and made it a wholly owned subsidiary known as Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd.
2011 The company acquired Freeworld Coatings Ltd. in South Africa, making it a subsidiary now known as Kansai Plascon Africa Ltd.
2012 The company acquired Kansai Paints Nepal Pvt., Ltd. as a consolidated subsidiary.
2013 The company established DNT Kansai Mexicana as a joint venture with Dai Nippon Tokyo.
2013 Kansai Paint acquired Astra Industries Ltd. in Zimbabwe as a subsidiary.
2017 The company acquired the European coating manufacturer Helios Group to increase its presence in Europe.
2023 Kansai Helios Coatings GmbH, a European consolidated subsidiary of Kansai Paint Co., Ltd, acquired Becker Industrie SAS's global railway coatings business assets.
2023 Kansai Paint Co., Ltd. and Kansai Helios Coatings acquired CWS Lackfabrik GmbH, based in Düren, Federal Republic of Germany. The company operates a powder coating and synthetic resin business in Europe and the U.S. 
2024 The company acquired WEILBURGER Coatings GmbH and WEILBURGER Asia Ltd under GREBE Holdings GmbH's umbrella and is responsible for the industrial paint manufacturing and sales business. The acquisition was completed on May 14, 2024.
