1842 The Laboratory of the Board of Excise was established to regulate tobacco adulteration.
1987 Alex Williams urges the need to include chemical and bio measurement within the UK National Measurement System (NMS).
1988 The UK government recognized LGC as a designated institute for chemical and bio-measurement. 
2008 The UK government launched its new combined chemical and biological measurement program (CBM) to address complicated challenges and enhance competitiveness and quality of life.
2019 The DNA Measurement Laboratory was founded with the National Measurement Laboratory by Prof. Dame Sue Hill, a chief scientific officer at NHS England.
2023 LGC Ltd. acquired Kova International, a leading developer and manufacturer of in-vitro urinalysis and toxicology quality control products for clinical laboratories. This acquisition will grow the company's Diagnostics portfolio in clinical quality control while complementing existing capabilities across serology, biochemistry, clinical genomics quality controls, and molecular and reference materials.
