MITSUI CHEMICALS AMERICA INC.
Company Snapshot
Company Overview
Mitsui Plastics is an American unit of Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals as well as its U.S. unit, Mitsui Chemicals America. It makes and sells several products of interests to this study. The companies are closely related, and the same product is listed in some examples by both of them. Most of the barrier plastic products of interest to this study are sold by Mitsui Chemicals.
Of particular interest are the Admer coextrusion tie layer resins. These are produced in Japan and exported to the U.S. Admer adhesive resins are modified polyolefins (polyolefin and modified EVA-based) with functional groups. They are designed to bond a variety of nonpolar resins like polyolefins, polycarbonates, and polystyrenes to more polar plastics like ionomers, polyamides, EVOH, PET and even metals. Different grades are made for different types of structures. Admer resins are especially recommended for bonding EVOH and nylons to polyolefin structural layers in both flexible and rigid MLS. Admer can be used in a wide variety of coextrusion processes for bottles, tubes, sheets and films.
Other important products for barrier packaging include EVOH, PVdC barrier plastics, polyamide 6, and cyclic olefin copolymer (COC), sold under its Apel brand name.
