1973 The company was founded by Shigenobu Nagamori and Hiroshi Kobe on July 23, 1973, and is headquartered in Kyoto.
1978 The company established Nidec Torin Corp. jointly with Torin Corp., an American fan manufacturer, to make full-scale inroads into the fan and blower market.
1993 The company acquired Masaka Electronics Co.Ltd. and merged with Ibaragi Nidec Corp. and Masaka Electronics Co.Ltd. to form Nidec Power General Corp, a new company.
1999 Nidec established Nidec General Service Corporation through a joint investment with Nidec Shimpo Corp., Tosok Corp., Copal Co., Ltd., Shibaura Nidec Corp., Nidec-Kyori Corp. and Nidec-Read Corp.
2000 The company acquired an American company, Seagate Technology Inc., 's HDD motor plant in Thailand and established Nidec Hi-Tech Motor (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a locally incorporated company.
2006 The company established Nidec Motors & Actuators by acquiring the motor and actuator business of Valeo S.A., a French company.
2009 Midec Corp. was established solely owned by Nidec Techno Motor Holdings Corporation, placing Nidec Shibaura Corporation and Nidec Power Motor Corporation under control.
2010 Nidec Techno Motor Holdings Corporation acquired the home appliance motor business of Appliances Components, an Italian home appliance manufacturer. Started Nidec Sole Motor Corporation S.R.L.
2010 The company established Nidec Motor Corporation by acquiring the Motors & Controls business of Emerson Electric Co., an American company. Established Nidec Motor Holdings Corporation as its holding company.
2011 The company established Nidec Management Shanghai Corporation as its subsidiary to control the financing of group companies operating in China.
2013 Nidec Corporation established Nidec Automotive Motors Americas Corporation in the US to integrate its automotive motor business into the country’s market.
2017 The company established Nidec Leroy-Somer Holding and Nidec Control Techniques Limited by acquiring Emerson Electric Co., an American company's motors, drives, and electric power generation businesses. 
2018 Nidec Corporation and French car manufacturer Groupe PSA completed the establishment of a joint venture (Nidec PSA emotors).
2019 Nidec and GAC components completed the establishment of a joint venture for Automotive Traction Motors(Guangzhou Nidec Auto Drive System Co., Ltd. )
2020 The company acquired the Delta production line from Secop through its sub-subsidiary, Nidec Global Appliance Italy S.r.l., and its Austrian company.
2021 The company acquired Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machine Tool Co., Ltd., which designs, manufactures, and sells machine tools, cutting tools, and related products, from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.
2022 The company established a Semiconductor Solutions Center focused on developing and providing solutions that enhance the performance and efficiency of semiconductor devices.
2023 The company developed a new duct damper for refrigerators that controls the temperature inside by running and blocking cold air. Each refrigerator uses one to five duct dampers.
2023 Nidec collaborated with Renesas Electronics Corporation to develop semiconductor solutions for a next-generation E-Axle (X-in-1 system) that integrates an EV drive motor and power electronics for electric vehicles (EVs).
2024 The company collaborated with Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland to provide an electric motor-controller system (“E-Drive”) as vehicle electrification has gained momentum globally and in India.
