1918 Nitto Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. was formed in Ohsaki, Tokyo, to produce electrical insulating materials in Japan.
1946 The company relocated its head office to Ibaraki, Osaka. After its head office in Ohsaki, Tokyo, was destroyed by air raids, it started producing black tape.
1949 The company established new offices in Osaka and Tokyo and started the production of anticorrosion tapes.
1957 The company started the production of electrical insulating casting and molding products.
1961 The company opened its first overseas office in New York and started producing fluoroplastic products and surface protection vinyl sheets.
1964 The company started the production of FRP electrical insulating products and double-coated adhesive tape.
1976 The company began the production of high-polymer separation membranes (reverse-osmosis membranes, ultrafiltration membranes).
1987 Nitto Denko Corp. acquired Hydranautics, which became part of Nitto Global Membrane Division (GMD).
1989 The company began the production of retardation films for liquid crystal displays(NRF) and further developed plant tissue culture technology (Tissue-cultured Panax Ginseng).
2002 The company acquired Acoustiseal in the U.S.A., now called Nitto Automotive, Inc.
2004 The company established Kinovate Life Siences, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary in Oceanside, California.
2007 Kyoshin Corp. and Nitto Denko Matex Corp. were consolidated into Nitto Denko Corp.
2011 Nitto Denko acquired Avecia Biotechnology, a maker of oligonucleotides for drug industry customers in the U.S.
2012 Avecia Biotechnology changed its name to Nitto Denko Avecia, Inc. in 2012. This was after Nitto Denko Corp. acquired Avecia Biotechnology in 2011.
2016 The company established "Inovas," an R&D and human resource development facility in Ibaraki, Osaka.
2022 Nitto acquired Mondi's personal care component business to strengthen the company's effort to expand human life solutions that support good health and well-being.
2024 Nitto Denko Corp. announced that it will acquire a partial stake in TruLife Optics (TLO), a UK-based company that makes holographic optical elements (HOEs) for AR glasses.
