1891 Vagnfabriks Aktiebolaget i Södertelge (Vabis), a centuries-old ironworks, was established jointly by engineer and industrialist Philip Wersén and Surahammars Bruk.
1902 Vagnfabrikens introduced its first truck, which can carry 1.5 tonnes of cargo and has a top speed of 12 km/h.
1905 The company introduced its first industrial engine, which was delivered to the fire brigade in Stockholm, Sweden, and installed in a water pump. The engine is a 24 hp, 4-cylinder unit with cylinders cast in pairs, overhead valves, and central forced lubrication.
1911 Scania-Vabis was developed through the merger of Maskinfabriksaktiebolaget Scania in Malmö and Vagnfabriksaktiebolaget i Södertelge, which was led by Per Alfred Nordeman.
1939 Scania-Vabis unveiled the Royal unitary diesel engine, which uses standardized components, marking the beginning of Scania’s modular system.
1940 Scania-Vabis delivered around 120 bus chassis to Stockholm’s public transport company. These trolleybuses were produced in partnership with the electric company ASEA (ABB) and the Swedish bodybuilder Hägglund & Söner.
1961 The company launched its first supercharged 10-litre truck engine, DS10, equipped with a turbine compressor driven by the engine exhausts.
1980 Scania introduced the GPRT range (2-series), the company’s first entirely modularised product range. The range is based on the far-reaching modularisation of engines, gearboxes, propeller shafts, final gears, and chassis components such as axles, frames, and especially cabs.
2005 Scania entered a joint venture with America’s Cummins to provide diesel engines with a high-pressure common-rail fuel injection system.
2007 Scania unveiled an ethanol-powered hybrid bus that lowers fuel consumption by around 25% and carbon emissions in fossil fuels by approximately 90%.
2012 Scania introduced the powerful 1,000 hp V8 marine engine with a test and ride in the Stockholm archipelago for selected customers and media. In late 2012, the engine was also launched in the North American market at the International Work Boat Show in New Orleans, U.S.
2018 Volkswagen AG developed Volkswagen Truck & Bus GmbH to bundle its brands such as MAN, Scania, Volkswagen Caminhoes e Onibus, and RIO and became TRATON GROUP. 
2019 Scania introduced its latest autonomous family member: AXL, a fully autonomous concept truck with no driver cab.
2020 Scania introduced its new four-piece V8 range, crowned with the most powerful: 770 hp, delivering 3700 Nm of torque. This delivers record power levels combined with improved fuel efficiency by 6 %.
2021 Scania introduced a new 13-litre gas engine for more extended travel operations. The new engine enabled travel operators to take significant steps towards sustainability without making a considerable investment.
2022 Scania launched My Scania at the IAA trade fair in Hannover, Germany. This personalized digital platform gave customers access to all Scania services in one place for the first time.
