1897	Marcus and Samuel renamed their company the Shell Transport and Trading Company and launched their first refinery at Balik Papan in Dutch Borneo.
1901	Shell Transport and Trading Company won the transport and distribution rights when oil was first found in Texas.
1907	Merged Shell Transport and Trading Company with Royal Dutch and formed the Royal Dutch Shell Group.
1929	Founded Shell Chemicals to advance the refinement of chemicals from oil.
1947	Royal Dutch Shell Group was drilled in the Gulf of Mexico, which was the first commercially viable offshore well.
1960s	The company started strengthening its presence in the Middle East, discovering oil in Yibal, Oman’s most prolific field.
1993	Shell opened the world’s first commercial GTL plant in Bintulu, Malaysia.
2005	Royal Dutch Petroleum and Shell Transport and Trading was dissolved.
2012	Shell completed Pearl Gas-to-Liquids fuels (GTL), which is the world’s largest source of GTL products in Qatar.
2015	Shell acquired BG Group, a U.K. oil and gas production company.
2016	Shell created its New Energies business to focus on exploring and developing commercial opportunities in renewable energy, such as wind and solar.
