1926 Schlumberger company was established as the Societe´ de Prospection Electrique in Paris, France. Initially, the firm carried out surface prospecting for the metal ore mining industry but gradually extended its activities to embrace the exploration of possible oil-bearing structures.
1930 Introduces continuous-recording hand recorder, enabling plotting of a continuous log of information.
1934 Founded Schlumberger Well Surveying Corporation (now Schlumberger Well Services) in Houston, Texas, U.S.
1935 Develops single-galvanometer automatic recorder for logging in the field; first well log in Brunei Darussalem is performed.
1940 Company headquarters moved to Houston.
1941 Introduces spontaneous potential (SP) diameter tool for finding angle of formation dip in borehole and Creation of Schlumberger Surenco SA (Latin America) and Schlumberger Overseas (Middle and Far East).
1946 Deploys first CCL to measure changes in magnetic flux at the collar's location and Records first induction log to help distinguish oil- from water-bearing rock layers when the borehole contains fluid that does not conduct electricity.
1947 First offshore rigs deployed in the Gulf of Mexico.
1948 Establishes Schlumberger research center in Ridgefield, Connecticut, U.S., and Introduces microlog tool for measuring mudcake thickness and resistivity near the borehole.
1950 Introduces laterolog tool for focusing currents into thin rock layers beyond the borehole and Launches The Technical Review (the forerunner of the Oilfield Review).
1951 Introduces microlaterolog tool for measuring resistivity near the borehole and Begins experiments with microneutron device to measure formation porosity by sensing the amount of hydrogen present.
1952 Acquires 50% of Forex and Languedocienne drilling rig companies and Introduces sonic measurements for better depth control for perforations and placing well completion equipment.
1954 Introduces microlog for recording borehole diameter, and First well log in Australia is performed.
1956 Acquires Johnston Testers, a US testing and production company, Forms Schlumberger Limited in Curacao as a holding company for all Schlumberger businesses.
1960 Forms Dowell Schlumberger (50% Schlumberger, 50% Dow Chemical), specializing in pumping services for the oil industry, and Founds Socie´te d'Instrumentation Schlumberger to coordinate expansion into electronics and measurement systems.
1961 Acquires Solartron (U.K.) electrical instrumentation company, Introduces formation density tool, and Completes first digitized dipmeter logs by computer, marking first successful computer processing of logs from tape.
1962 Acquires Vector Cable operations and Daystrom measurement instruments, Commercializes the compensated density log, followed by the pad-type neutron log acquired by the SNP tool.
1968 Introduces Model TTR (talking tape recorder) to replace the nine-galvanometer R9 recorder.
1971 Acquired Flopetrol (testing production of oil wells), Acquired the remaining 50% of Forex, and created Forex Neptune Drilling Company.
1976 Introduced First logging truck equipped with a computer—the Cyber Service Unit (CSU) for wellsite instrumentation.
1982 Opens Cambridge Research Center in England, Acquires Applicon, Develops Crystal graphical log interpretation workstation, which ultimately became the basis for GeoFrame software.
1987 Acquires Neptune (North America), Bosco and Cori (Italy), and Allmess (Germany).
1991 Introduces the FMI microimager and Acquires majority share (51%) of PRAKLA-SEISMOS and merges it with Geco to create Geco-Prakla.
1995 Acquires AEG meter Intera Technologies Corp petroleum division, including its ECLIPSE reservoir study team and reservoir technologies, Creates Omnes joint venture between Schlumberger and Cable & Wireless.
1999 Enters joint venture with Smith International, creating the world's largest drilling fluids company, M-I L.L.C (60% Smith International, 40% Schlumberger). Opens Schlumberger Stavanger Research Center in Norway, focusing on seismic image analysis and interpretation research.
2000 Acquires Aberdeen-based Data Marine Services, an oilfield communications firm, Opens Schlumberger Reservoir Completions Technology Center in Rosharon, Texas, and Launches IndigoPool.com acquisition and development (A&D) services company.
2001 Forms Schlumberger Information Solutions (SIS) to support real-time reservoir management and E&P business optimization processes, Acquires Sema plc, a UK-based IT consultancy, Acquires Phoenix, a Scottish-based submersible pump technologies company, Acquires Sensa fiber optic temperature sensing solutions based in Southampton, England.
2002 Introduces proVISION real-time reservoir steering tool for LWD; OrientXact perforating system; SlimXtreme slimhole high-pressure, high-temperature wireline logging platform; Acquires Inside Reality 3D virtual reality system; Acquires DBR Group of Canada, provider of phase behavior and fluid property technology, Launches ABC Analysis Behind Casing services to support formation evaluation in cased wells.
2003 Completes acquisition of Petrel Workflow Tools, a provider of collaborative software for the seismic sector, and Acquires Norwegian-based VoxelVision, a high-end PC-based visualization and seismic technology company.
2004 Opens Russia Technology Hub within the campus of Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, Establishes industry's first long-term reservoir monitoring program between Statoil and WesternGeco, Acquires SGK (Siberian Geophysical Company), Acquires stake in PetroAlliance Services Company Limited, a Russian oilfield services company.
2005 Introduces FiberFRAC technology to improve production rates in tight-gas reservoirs through better proppant distribution and fracture geometry, Opens Global Reservoir Fluids Center in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
2006 Introduces the Quicksilver Probe wireline sampling technology, delivering formation fluid samples quickly with little or no contamination; Acquires Odegaard A/S, a Danish provider of surface seismic data inversion software, and integrates it into WesternGeco, Opens Schlumberger Dhahran Center for Carbonate Research in Saudi Arabia.
2007 Completes acquisition of Geosystem, a Milan-based land and marine electromagnetics and seismic imaging firm, and integrates it into WesternGeco Electromagnetics; Acquires Tyumenpromgeofizika, a West Siberian-based geophysical and wireline logging company, Acquires Insensys fiber optic stress measurement systems for the subsea integrity surveillance market.
2008 Acquires Staag Imaging, a Houston-based provider of depth imaging technologies for seismic data processing, Acquires Extreme Engineering Limited, a Calgary-based supplier of unmanned measurement-while-drilling (MWD) systems.
2009 Forms IntelliServ joint venture with National Oilwell Varco, Acquires Techsia, a supplier of petrophysical software based in Montpellier, France.

2011 Acquires Framo Engineering, a privately owned Norwegian firm producing pumps, metering systems, swivels, and other marine systems for the oil and gas industry, Inaugurates WesternGeco Penang Product Center in Malaysia to support global demand for geophysical services.
2012 Forms OneSubsea, a joint venture with Cameron, to manufacture and develop products, systems, and services for the subsea oil and gas market. Opens the Schlumberger China Petroleum Institute in Beijing to provide best-in-class pyrotechnical services to address technical challenges specific to China.
2013 Introduces the CoilScan RT real-time pipe inspection system that minimizes nonproductive time by identifying coiled tubing pipe defects; introduces advanced microseismic data processing for improved well completion design, notably a new moment tensor inversion service to enhance microseismic data.
2014 Announces alliance between OneSubsea, a Cameron and Schlumberger company, and Helix Energy Solutions Group, Inc. to develop technologies and deliver services to optimize the cost and efficiency of subsea well intervention systems. Acquires Rock Deformation Research, a UK-based company specializing in geological software development and structural geology consultancy for the oil and gas industry.

2019 Enters joint venture agreement with Rockwell Automation to create Sensia, the oil and gas industry's first fully integrated automation solutions provider.
2023 SLB collaborates with Northern Lights JV and Microsoft to digitalize carbon capture and storage value chain, and SLB launches carbon storage screening and ranking solution.
2024 SLB and Aker Carbon Capture joint venture awarded FEED contract by CO280 for large-scale carbon removal project.
