1921 Terumo Corp was founded as a Red Line Thermometer Corporation by a group of medical scientists led by Dr. Shibasaburo Kitasato for the purpose of manufacturing accurate clinical thermometers in Japan.
1922 Launched Jintan Taionkei, the company’s first clinical thermometer, in Japan.
1936 Change of company name to Jintan Thermometer Corporation.
1963 Jintan Thermometer Corporation launched Japan’s first disposable syringe.
1969 The company has launched Japan’s first blood bag.
1971 Establishment of local affiliates in the U.S. and Europe (Belgium).
1973 Launched Japan’s first intravenous solutions in soft plastic bags, based on the technology accumulated through the development of blood bags.
1974 The company has changed its name from Jintan Thermometer Corporation. to Terumo Corporation.
1977 Terumo Corp launched the hollow fiber dialyzer and entry to the field of artificial organs.
1980 The company has launched Japan’s first parenteral nutrient solution in soft plastic bags.
1982 Launch of the world’s first microporous hollow-fiber membrane oxygenator.
1983 Terumo Corp launched Japan’s first digital thermometer for hospitals.
1984 Terumo Corp terminated mercury thermometer production and implementation of efforts to spread digital thermometers.
1985 The company has launched the angiographic catheter system in Japan and entry into the field of vascular intervention.
1988 Launch of the peritoneal dialysis system in Japan.
1989 Establishment of the Shonan Center R&D facility in Japan.
1993 Terumo Corp launched the blood glucose monitor in Japan.
1995 Foundation of Terumo Medical Products (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. (China).
1996 Foundation of Changchun Terumo Medical Products Co., Ltd. (China).
1999 Establishment of Terumo Penpol Pvt. Ltd. (India) as a joint venture expanding the company’s business in blood transfusion products. The cardiovascular division of 3M joins Terumo Group, establishing Terumo Cardiovascular Systems Corp. (U.S.).
2000 Start of production at Terumo (Philippines) Corp. and Introduction of the closed infusion system in Japan.
2001 The home oxygen division of Sumitomo Bakelite Co., Ltd. (Japan) joins Terumo Group, establishing Terumo Medical Care K.K. and Ikiken Co., Ltd. (Japan) joins Terumo Group.
2002 Establishment of Terumo Medical Pranex, a training facility for medical professionals in Japan and Vascutek Ltd. (U.K.), a manufacturer of vascular grafts, joins the Terumo Group.
2003 Terumo Corp launched the world’s first high-calorie IV solution containing multivitamins.
2005 It has launched the world’s thinnest injection needle for administering insulin and other medications in Japan.
2006 MicroVention Inc. (U.S.), a neurovascular intervention device company, joins Terumo Group, marking Terumo’s entry to neurovascular intervention therapy with embolization coils for treating brain aneurysms.
2007 The heart valve division of Dr. Franz Köhler Chemie GmbH (Germany) joins Terumo Group, expanding Terumo’s operations related to vascular prostheses and Establishment of Olympus Terumo Biomaterials Corp. (Japan), a joint venture with Olympus Corp.
2008 Terumo Corp launched a drug-eluting coronary stent in Europe, and Clinical Supply Co., Ltd. (Japan), a manufacturer of interventional oncology devices, joins Terumo Group, enhancing Terumo’s interventional systems business in the field of radiotherapy.
2010 Foundation of Terumo Americas Holding, Inc.
2011 CaridianBCT Holding Corp. and Harvest Technologies Corp. join Terumo Group. Foundation of Terumo (China) Holding Co., Ltd. And Terumo Yamaguchi Corp.
2012 Establishment of the Austria Branch of Terumo Deutschland GmbH, Foundation of Terumo Asia Holdings Pte. Ltd., Launched the thoracic frozen elephant trunk in Europe.
2013 Introduction of a series of vital measuring devices with communication functions in Japan and Foundation of Terumo BCT Vietnam Co., Ltd., Terumo Russia LLC and Terumo India Pvt. Ltd.
2014 Foundation of Terumo Medical Innovation.
2015 Introduction of the autologous skeletal myoblast sheet, the world’s first approved regenerative medicine for cardiac regenerative therapy in Japan.
2017 Bolton Medical, Inc. (U.S.), a manufacturer of stent grafts for aortic treatment, joined Terumo Group and Terumo Corp and received approval for Japan’s first insulin patch pump.
2018 Launch of the new business brand “Terumo Aortic” and Essen Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd. (China), a specialized enterprise of coronary interventional devices, joins Terumo Group.
2019 Terumo Corp Launched the cell therapy fill and finish system.
2022 The company has launched the new business brand “Terumo Medical Care Solutions”.
2023 Terumo Corp established the foundation of Terumo South Africa (Pty) Ltd.
