1866 The Sherwin-Williams Co. was established by Henry A. Sherwin and Edward P. Williams in Cleveland, Ohio.
1873 The Sherwin-Williams Co. introduced its first ready-mixed paint, and a high-quality oil-based paint was introduced to the market.
   
1881 - 1900  
1888 Sherwin-Williams Co. bought the Calumet Paint Co. of Chicago. This expansion was fueled in part by Walter H. Cottingham.
1890 Sherwin-Williams Co. introduced a line of marine finishes.
1892 Sherwin-Williams Co. merged with Walter H. Cottingham Co. to mark its first presence in Canada.
   
1901 - 1920  
1903 Sherwin-Williams Co. established an office in London which accelerated its access to New Zealand, Canada, Australia, South Africa, China, and India.
   
1921 - 1940  
1925 Sherwin-Williams Co. was first traded on the American Stock Exchange.
1928 Sherwin-Williams Co. introduces its first synthetic aviation coatings.
   
1941-1960  
1941 Sherwin-Williams Co. introduced the Roller-Koater applicator.
1959 Sherwin-Williams Co. introduced the Kem Colorimeter Mixing Machine to help customers customize paint colors.
   
1961 - 1980  
1961 Sherwin-Williams Co. develops paint can shakers to help mix five-gallon containers and allow customers to buy paint in larger quantities.
1963 Sherwin-Williams Co. introduced Acrylyd, an automotive finish resistant to chips and scratches.
   
1981 - 2000  
1992 Sherwin-Williams Co. opened its 2,000th store. This retail outlet was opened, and the consumer brands division was formed.
   
2001 - 2020  
2006 Sherwin-Williams Co. opened its 3,000th store in Syosset, New York.
2011 Sherwin-Williams Co. introduced Harmony Interior Latex paint, which helps promote better indoor air quality.
2014 Sherwin-Williams Co. opened its 4,000th store its newest location in Sewickley, Pennsylvania.
2015 Sherwin-Williams Co. launched Paint Shield, the first EPA-registered paint that helps kill bacteria.
2017 Sherwin-Williams Co. acquired Valspar Corp. Under this acquisition, Valspar Corp.'s shareholders will receive $113 per share in cash.
2018 Sherwin-Williams Co. introduced the ColorSnap Visualizer Application, which helps customers paint colors on their walls.
