Founded in 1963, Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TEL) produces and distributes semiconductors, display equipment, and photovoltaic panels. TEL operates under two business segments including Semiconductor and FPD (Flat Panel Displays) production equipment. The company offers various products pertaining to semiconductor manufacturing such as deposition equipment, lithography equipment, equipment for etching and cleaning, and testing equipment among others.

TEL operates in multiple geographies namely China, Taiwan, South Korea, North America, Japan, Europe, and Southeast Asia and others, out of which significant portion of the sales came from China for 2023. Further, within Japan, TEL operates across 27 locations and internationally company has spread across 17 countries and regions, amounting to 56 locations.

As of March 2023, TEL has shipped approximately 6,000 units of semiconductor equipment units and has a cumulative installed base of over 89,000 units. The company owns 21,645 patents, which is the largest number in the semiconductor production equipment industry.
