Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises Inc. is a global leader and provider of energy products and services. Established in 1867, Babcock, Wilcox & Co. manufactured and marketed watertube boilers. In June 2015, the company announced that it approved the spin-off of its power generation business, creating a newly public company, Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises Inc. (“New B&W”), to operate as Babcock & Wilcox, with headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. The remaining company changed its name to BWX Technologies Inc. (BWXT), headquartered in Lynchburg, Virginia. The split was approved to benefit from independent management teams, strategic autonomy, and financial flexibility, hoping to create significant long-term shareholder value. BWXT now focuses primarily on the nuclear industry.
The company provides products and services to various industries, including clean energy technologies, construction, environmental, fossil power, government services, industrial power and process steam, nuclear medicine, nuclear power, and pulp and paper. The company is active in North American, South American, Asian, and European markets and has an installed capacity of more than 310,000 MW worldwide. Babcock & Wilcox has manufactured 50% of the process recovery boilers at pulp and paper mills in North America and about 20% worldwide. B&W has locations worldwide. B&W reported revenues of $889.8 million for the fiscal year 2022, of which the company's power-generated segment accounted for 61.1% of total revenues.
The company offers various auxiliary equipment, boilers and boiler replacement parts. B&W designs and manufactures large utility and industrial power generation systems, including boilers to generate steam in electric power plants, pulp and paper making, chemical and process applications, and other industrial uses. B&W Power Generation designs and manufactures steam-generating systems to address any fuel requirements and meet the needs of utilities and industrial applications. B&W’s watertube package boilers are available in a wide range of capacities from 238 to 7,535 HP. The company provides its watertube package boilers to various industries, including manufacturing and processing facilities, petrochemical, pulp and paper, and pharmaceuticals. The company also manufactures biomass boiler systems.
