STMicroelectronics was incorporated as a merger between the semiconductor business of SGS Microelettronica and the non-military business of Thomson Semiconducteurs. It also has digital products that are at the heart of electronics systems, including microcontrollers & microprocessors, ASICs, and optical sensing solutions, including secure microcontrollers for mobile devices, wearables, banking, identification, industrial, automotive, and IoT markets, and a series of embedded processing solutions for strategic end markets.

The company sells its IoT sensors through analog, MEMS, and sensor groups. Its portfolio of IoT sensors includes accelerometers, gyroscopes, e-compasses, humidity sensors, iNEMO inertial modules, MEMS microphones, pressure sensors, temperature sensors, and proximity sensors.
